Parallel Plate Plastimeter Description
Parallel Plate Plastimeter is an instrument used for the determination of plasticity and recovery of raw rubber and unvulcanized compounded rubber. The plasticity value and the recovery value are related to the viscoelasticity of the rubber material. The plasticity value is related to the fluidity, and the recovery value is related to the elasticity. These properties are very important in determining the processing properties of rubber.
The plastometer features an oven for providing a test temperature from 50°C up to 300°C as needed. Air blowing is permitted inside the chamber to circulate the hot air and to keep the temperature difference within 1 degree Celsius. The inner chamber of the oven contains a frame made of #45 carbon steel with a horizontal plate at the bottom that allows the sample to be placed on it. This plate is parallel to the face of the bottom of the cylindrical weight above it. The weight assembly is designed to apply a total pressure of 49 ± 0.5 N to the specimen during the test by means of the lift lever. There is a dial indicator with a graduation of 0.01mm on the top of the oven to allow you to measure the distance between the two plates in the chamber at any time. The control panel is located on one side of the oven and has a temperature controller and a timer for the operator to easily set and monitor the temperature and test time.

Parallel Plate Plastimeter Test Principle
A cylindrical specimen of a certain volume is preheated at the specified test temperature for 15 ± 0.5 minutes, and then a pressure of 49±0.5 N is applied within the specified time. The height of the specimen is measured and the plasticity value is calculated. The test specimen is unloaded and recovered for a specified time at the test temperature. The height of the specimen after recovery is measured, and the difference between the two heights is the recovery value.
